Under the umbrella of the Joint Traffic Safety Committee in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA) has launched the "Giving Way to Emergency Vehicles" campaign in collaboration with The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters and the Department of Municipalities and Transport, represented by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility).

This campaign aligns with the government’s objectives to enhance and raise community awareness about the importance of giving way to emergency vehicles and ensuring their swift arrival at accident sites to save lives and property.

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters emphasized that giving way to emergency vehicles, such as ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars, allows them to reach accident sites faster, which can save lives or reduce the severity of injuries. Every second counts in emergencies, and any delay caused by failing to give way can exacerbate situations, especially in cases of fires or critical medical emergencies. The police also highlighted that giving way is not only for the benefit of patients or injured individuals but also for protecting emergency teams who operate under dangerous conditions and need to reach accident sites quickly and safely.

The Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA) stressed that the swift response of emergency vehicles plays a crucial role in minimizing damages caused by accidents and fires. It highlighted that community cooperation and adherence to regulations create a safer environment for everyone. The authority urged drivers to act responsibly while driving and to respond immediately upon hearing sirens or seeing emergency vehicles, reflecting a spirit of cooperation in supporting efforts to save lives and protect property.

Additionally, the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) explained that launching an awareness campaign on giving way to emergency vehicles is vital for saving lives and reducing response times in critical situations. This campaign raises awareness of traffic laws, improves drivers' behavior, and reduces congestion, enabling emergency teams to reach accident sites quickly and safely. Furthermore, the campaign fosters a spirit of cooperation, social responsibility, and trust in emergency services, positively impacting road and public safety, and quality of life.

The campaign primarily focuses on raising awareness through various media channels and digital platforms, in addition to organizing field events and awareness lectures targeting drivers and different segments of society. The campaign also aims to clarify traffic laws related to giving way to emergency vehicles and the penalties for obstructing their movement, thereby strengthening community compliance and achieving the highest safety standards.

This initiative, which will continue throughout the year, is part of a joint action plan to enhance the concept of a safe transportation system on the roads. It also aligns with the leadership’s vision to improve quality of life and make Abu Dhabi a safer and more secure community through the cooperation of drivers and all road users to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
